How does the
SureStep® test work?
The
test is a lateral-flow chromatographic immunoassay for the
qualitative detection of drugs and their metabolites in human
urine.
The foil
pouch containing the device has a tear in it and part of the device
has been exposed, is it still ok to use this
test?
No, this test should be discarded and a fresh
test device should be used. The test should only be removed from
the protective foil pouch immediately before it is due to be
used.
How do I
know that the test has been performed properly?
The
control line acts as an internal procedural control where a red
line appearing in the control (C) region confirms the addition of
sufficient specimen volume and that the correct procedural
technique has been used.
I have run a
SureStep® Drug Screen Test and there is
no line in the Control region after 10 minutes, how do I interpret
this result?
The result of this test is invalid, the
presence of a line in the control region indicates that the test
has worked correctly.
When the urine specimen is
added to the test, red/pink fluid can be seen migrating up the
membrane, is this normal?
A red/pink background is
normal as the sample flows up the test strip and will not affect
the test result. As long as it does not interfere with the
interpretation of the line(s), the colour of the background can be
disregarded.
Does the specimen need to
be sent to a laboratory for confirmation?
The
SureStep® Drug Screen Test provides only
a qualitative, preliminary analytical result. A secondary
analytical method must be used to obtain a confirmed
result. Gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) is the
preferred confirmatory method.
Can the result be read before the
specified read time?
No. A negative result may be
apparent earlier but it is important that the test be allowed to
fully develop for the duration of the stated read time. The test
result should be read at 5 minutes and must not be interpreted
after 10 minutes.
